Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large, and complex campus department consisting of 9 divisions, with more than 550 staff employees, 600-700 student employees and an annual operating budget of $100 million. Housing Dining Hospitality provide housing for nearly 12,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families. Currently, Housing Dining Hospitality house 50% of UC San Diego’s enrolled students with a goal of housing 50% in the near future. Housing Dining Hospitality also provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services, and catering services to student residents, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

As a member of the Network, Operations and Security Services unit of HDH IT, this network and support analyst performs a number of highly analytical and business essential functions. Responsible for support and implementation of an integrated workstation desktop system connecting HDH and Resident Life customers to application, data, printers, and other network resources in a advanced multiple server environment. This position also works closely with the department wide service desk, balancing responsibilities that require a broad variety of technical and interpersonal skills.

Defines, implements, supports, and maintains computer-based information systems serving HDH and Resident Life. Included among these systems are windows based servers and workstations, multiple desktop operating systems, numerous proprietary enterprise applications and specialized sub-systems. Acts as project lead providing guidance to and participating on teams with other programmer/analysts and staff members within HDH and Resident Life. Develops documentation, training programs, and other communications to increase technical expertise, awareness, and productivity of HDH customers.

HDH Information Technologies division supports in excess of 425 workstations, 80 Point of sale (POS) and credit Card terminals in over 320 locations. It includes over 80 Microsoft and HP servers integrated in a sophisticated network to provide file/print, document imaging/archival, database, web access, remote access, and network management services. The network also delivers a variety of custom transactional and reporting applications to HDH, SBS, Campus community and external entities (e.g., Student ID Card office, Extension services and off Campus vendors). Support of the HDH network includes numerous custom and commercial applications tightly integrated into a large highly customized, highly complex workstation desktop interface.

~~May be required to work variable hours and overtime, including weekends. Able to carry up to 50 pounds for short distances. Primary work location is at HDH Administrative Building-Revelle Campus. May work in multiple locations.

  • BS Degree in a technical or scientific discipline such as Computer Science; or comparable combination of education and experience
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with various MS operating systems, products, file systems/structures, network architectures, communications, database/relational DBMS products, Active Directory, SANs technology, network security standards and practices, backup/archive technologies/practices, Exchange, SMS, WSUS, Sharepoint, Virtual Server technology, Cluster technologies, ISA, MS SQL, IIS, ISS, VPN, patch and upgrade management, remote and wireless communications and devices and other related technologies and methodologies required to support a large complex networked environment utilizing Intel/Microsoft architectures.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Internet technologies and their integration into the HDH network. This includes Web server and browser software, TCP/IP, telnet, and HTML page authoring
  • Knowledge of and experience with VPN communication server and client software and how to configure and support Remote Access.
  • Knowledge of standard programming techniques, the ability to develop and edit small and medium batch files, scripts, Windows registries, and programs to accomplish network tasks.
