Computer Systems Administrator II



Essential Function


The Office of Innovative Technology and Learning Design (OITLD) at the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH) at the University of Cincinnati seeks to hire a Computer Systems Administrator II, reporting to the Information Technology Manager with a dotted line to the Cyber Range Director. This position will be the technical lead and support all elements of a virtualized computing environment for the Ohio Cyber Range project. The Ohio Cyber Range at the University of Cincinnati (OCR@UC) will provide a cyber training environment to students, educators, and response teams. The OCR is an initiative of the Ohio Cyber Collaboration Committee (OC3), a collaborative between public, private, military, and educational organizations to strengthen cyber security for the State of Ohio. Cyber exercises within the OCR@UC will be performed in virtual settings (or classrooms) by various organizations across Ohio. The virtualized environment will serve as a pilot site to establish implementation best practices, and the resulting documentation will be shared statewide. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for two years from date of hire with potential for re-funding.




Duties & Responsibilities


Provide hands-on support for a 5,000+ virtual machine environment, running VMware vCAC / vRealize Automation. Responsible for all technical aspects of the OCR@UC equipment including, physical hardware, servers, storage, virtual networking, identity management, software, operating systems, backup and disaster recovery. Develop and implement maintenance schedules/plans for all hardware, firmware, operating systems, networking systems, database systems and applications. Assess the impact of new software on existing systems and develop modification plans as needed. Coordinate and plan upgrades and modifications to the OCR.



Coordinate the scheduling, management, allocation, and life cycle of OCR@UC and infrastructure. Establish, develop, document, and share best practices for cyber range implementation with the OC3. Attend all OCR meetings and cyber exercise events. Report updates to the OITLD technology support team. Work with Cyber Range Director and Academic Coordinator to share range data and best practices. Consult with clients and develop/build configuration(s) in the OCR to meet their objectives. Develop scripts for automating different administration functions. Other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and two (2) years' related experience. Experience and/or training in the development and/or maintenance of large scale virtualized computing environments.



Ideal Qualifications


VMware ESXi and vCenter experience, particularly, experience working with vCloud Director or vRealize Automation environments. Experience may include related certifications.
