Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno invites candidates for the position of Senior Unix Server Administrator in the Office of Information Technology (OIT). The Sr. Unix Server Administrator is responsible for the planning, purchase, deployment, and daily operation of the University's server systems that use Unix based server operating systems. These systems provide a variety of services to the institution and are of particular importance to academic and research computing.

The Sr. Unix Server Administrator is responsible for configuring, ordering, deploying, and maintaining Unix server systems residing in Information Technology server rooms as well as working with customers and vendors to determine the requirements for a given application to be hosted on a server; working with an approved vendor to develop an appropriate configuration for the server system; working with purchasing to order the equipment; deploying the system in an Information Technology server room; and maintains the system hardware and operating system over the life of the system. The Senior Unix Server Administrator acts as a technical resource for lower-level Unix Server Administrators. The incumbent also researches and deploys new, emerging technologies and trains lower-level server administrators in the use of these new systems. This position reports to the Director of Information Technology Operations.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and four years of related professional experience or Master's Degree and two years of related professional experience.
Relevant Experience: in an enterprise or university environment

Experience working with/knowledge of:
  • CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu, and Red Hat operating systems
  • Basic TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP network implementation
  • Apache/Tomcat Web Environments
  • Project management methodology
  • VMware VSphere or other virtualization technologies
  • High Performance Cluster (HPC) computing
  • MySQL
  • OpenSSL
  • System Orchestration
  • Scripting
  • Systems Monitoring
  • Sympa Mailing Lists
