Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno Office of Information Technology is recruiting for a System Administrator (Teams/Microsoft Focus) for their Unified Communications (UC) and Network Operations division. Systems Administrators are responsible for email, voice and data systems programming, administration and support. These positions work within the team of system administrators responsible for administering, maintaining, updating, and repairing communication, email, VOIP and other systems. The position reports to the Manager, Unified Communications in Information Technology (IT). The Manager reports to the Director, Networking and Unified Communications.
The Assistant System Administrator, UC is an entry level position responsible for providing routine support in a voice and data environment. The position works under the guidance of other System Administrators with the goal of becoming experience with voice and data best practices. In addition, they perform and learn troubleshooting skills to solve problems with campus communications equipment.
The System Administrator, UC is responsible for administering, maintaining, updating, and repairing communication, email, VOIP and other systems. The position is the technical resource for the department under limited direction from the Senior System Administrators and Manager. The position manages projects as assigned by the UC Manager.
The Senior System Administrator, UC heads the team of system administrators and is the expert in the area of unified communications. The position handles the most complex problems and guides the group in completing assignments and training of new System Administrators and troubleshooting. The Senior System Administrator, UC will research new and emerging technologies that may provide benefits consistent with current and future university communication plans.
Required Qualifications
Assistant System Administrator, UC
High School graduation and three (3) years of related work experience OR
Associate's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR
Bachelor's Degree one (1) year of related work experience OR
Master's Degree and no experience necessary
Related Experience: IT experience in an enterprise of university computing or voice/data environment or related experience.
System Administrator, UC
High School graduation and four (4) years of related work experience OR
Associate's Degree and three (3) years of related work experience OR
Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR
Master's Degree and one (1) year of related work experience
Related Experience: IT experience in an enterprise or university environment or voice/data environment or related experience.
Senior System Administrator, UC
High School graduation and five (5) years of related work experience OR
Associate's Degree and four (4) years of related work experience OR
Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience OR
Master's Degree and two (2) years of related professional work experience
Related Experience: IT experience in an enterprise or university environment and voice/data environment or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Assistant System Administrator, UC (Teams/Microsoft Focus)
- Background in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Office 365 suite.
- Understanding of Active Directory and basic user access management.
- Good problem-solving skills, particularly in user support for collaborative tools like Teams.
System Administrator, UC (Teams/Microsoft Focus)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, including experience with channels, meeting policies, and permissions management.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 administrative roles, including Azure AD and Group Policy management.
- Knowledge of Hyper-V/VMWare and familiarity with backup & replication services for Teams data.
- Understanding of Teams integration with other Microsoft services (e.g., OneDrive, SharePoint).
Senior System Administrator, UC (Teams/Microsoft Focus)
- Deep experience with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 in an enterprise setting, including telephony integration.
- Strong project management and planning skills for Microsoft environment upgrades or expansions.
- Expertise in managing Teams security, compliance, and retention policies.
- Familiarity with procurement processes for Teams-related equipment and enterprise network design.
Schedule or Travel Requirements
- Occasional work outside typical hours is required
- Travel to conferences, training or other network locations is required

Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees
